Karen Smith

I’m constantly challenged to explore and create new fibre art pieces on my floor loom, inkle loom, felting and most recently with soft sculpture. Key inspiration comes from careful observation in nature, sketching, and through experimentation with various colours and materials. I’m curious about the stories held in fabric surfaces and textures. What is the history of a yarn or a piece of fabric? How was it produced? How does it decay over time?

I love weaving as a meditative practice and soft sculpture, painting and felting for more whimsical expression. What I enjoy most about making fibre art is the expansive learning opportunities that will last a lifetime.
